Lohmann & Rauscher supports Bergwaldprojekt e.V. with EUR 10.000,-

For more than a year now, Lohmann & Rauscher (L&R) has been offering a part of its exclusive German Ratioline range of supports and orthoses made from recycled yarns. But sustainability does not stop here: With a part of the sales proceeds from these products – EUR 10,000 – L&R has now supported the Bergwaldprojekt e.V. association: during a tree planting campaign in Burbach in Siegerland/Germany, committed L&R employees were able to make an important contribution to stabilizing the forest ecosystem. At the same time they experienced a great and meaningful team day.

Sustainability and related activities have been an integral part of Lohmann & Rauscher's corporate activities and are consistently taken into account in product and process development. Environmental targets are set and reviewed annually. These include the reduction of CO2, increased recycling, waste separation and energy-saving programs, the installation of photovoltaic systems and social activities. In September 2022, L&R took a further step: since then, L&R has been selling a new line of supports and orthoses with sustainability relevance in Germany under its pharmacy-exclusive umbrella brand Ratioline. The products for stabilizing the wrist, elbow, knee and ankle are made from at least 80% recycled yarns and are manufactured in Europe. The supports and orthoses are also packaged in eco cardboard made from 100% recycled paper with grass content.

Planting trees as a team: sustainable corporate volunteering for EUR 10,000,-
It's not just the aforementioned material and packaging properties that contribute to more ecological sustainability. L&R supports the Bergwaldprojekt e.V. association with part of the proceeds from the sale of Ratioline supports and orthoses. The association is dedicated to the protection, preservation and care of forests, especially mountain forests, and cultural landscapes. The association also promotes an understanding of the interrelationships in nature, the interests of the forest and the dependence of humans on these ecosystems through a variety of projects.

Carina Hessler, Product Manager for Ratioline products at L&R Germany: "We wanted to go one step further with our new product line and combine ecology and social responsibility. The collaboration with Bergwaldprojekt e.V. created a wonderful synergy here: as part of our cooperation, committed colleagues took part in an all-day tree-planting campaign in Burbach in Siegerland on November 21. The tree planting was financed by L&R with EUR 10,000,-."

Burbach in Siegerland / Germany was chosen because the consequences of forest dieback due to drought as a result of the climate crisis are particularly visible there and it is the closest "action" location of Bergwaldprojekt e.V. to the company's German sites in Neuwied and Rengsdorf.

Carina Hessler: "We were able to plant 500 silver fir trees that day and we are very, very proud of that as a team! We were professionally guided by the mountain forest project managers on site and were thus able to actively make an important contribution to stabilizing the forest ecosystem. We also learned a lot about forest dieback, which plant species are cultivated and why, etc. This day brought us closer together. And it sensitized us all to the conflicting priorities of economy, ecology and social issues and made us aware of how vulnerable our ecosystem is. And most importantly we learnt what we can do as a team, but also individually, to counteract forest dieback.”
