    We provide training internationally

Our L&R Academy trainers provide training to customers, business partners and L&R staff around the world – from Tehran to St. Petersburg.

L&R deliver over 2,000 training courses to over 50,000 participants a year in over 50 countries worldwide. These countries include Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, the Middle East, Africa, China and Latin America.

The L&R Group’s training team (IAF-EMS) is a competent and primary contact for all of the external further education and training projects delivered by the Group. These external training measures are complemented by the L&R Academy’s internal further education and training program, which includes a wide range of different courses and is made available to all L&R trainees and employees.

“Our aim is to provide the right training for the right target group in the right way to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone involved, regardless of where they are in the world”, explained Dr. Georg Votava, Head of Staff Unit IAF.

International: What’s important – relevance to practice

All of our international training courses focus on medical and technical subject matter.

Peter Staudinger, Head of Education Marketing & Sales: “Our team of trainers has a single focus. And that is to deliver our training in such a way that it is of real benefit to participants and genuinely relevant to everyday practice.” The subjects covered by our courses are wound care, lymphology, phlebology, immobilisation and mobilisation, as well as set systems and hygiene. Our experienced team of trainers delivers practice-oriented user training to the exact target groups that work with L&R products on a daily basis: hospital staff, private and independent doctors and medical care staff, as well as consultants and sales experts from the medical sector. The primary objective of the training we provide is to enable users to use our products with confidence, because this is the only way they will benefit from solutions that will improve their patients’ quality of life.

“The conditions for our training courses do of course differ from country to country. And this is where our experience, creativity and plain common sense come into play.”

The process of internationalising of our training courses is ongoing:

    • We have now been delivering summer and winter Certified Wound Manager courses for medical care staff at the Medical University Graz since 2016.
    • We have been delivering the two-day “Compression-aided Wound Care and Edema Management” course, which has been very popular with specialist wound managers and lymphedema therapists, twice a year on the Säntis in the Swiss mountains since 2015.
    • We have also been delivering a large number of courses in Turkey, the Middle East, Russia, China and Latin America. One of our most recent courses comprised a series of trainings on the subject of lymphology held in St. Petersburg that was attended by over 30 doctors and medical care staff. In addition to these trainings, we also delivered a number of further training courses for doctors on plaster casting techniques and Total Contact Casts in St. Petersburg in collaboration with the Turner Institute.Gipsverbandtechniken und Total Contact Cast durchgeführt.
    • In 2017, L&R opened a Lymph Center in Tehran. This initiative is to be followed by additional lymph and wound care centres in China.

    Our research and teaching collaborations

Our collaborations with public bodies and research institutes is adding still further to the quality of L&R’s training courses. Our collaboration with the Joanneum Graz University of Applied Sciences, for example, led to the development of an academic CDT course for providing lymphedema therapist training and certification to people from all over the world (Certified Lymphedema Therapists).

Peter Staudinger, Head of Education: “Our extensive network comprises public education and research institutes, as well as domestic and foreign industrial partners, and allows us to collaborate at a global level. We consistently invest in international knowledge exchange in order to optimise L&R’s training programmes on an ongoing basis – in Vienna, Rengsdorf and the whole of the world.

Loay Karam, Physiotherapeut und Flying Faculty Member: “As a physiotherapist, I am aware that there is a need for further and advanced training in the Arab region in particular with respect to functional therapy as well as stabilisation and mobilisation. German/Austrian medical standards have a very good reputation in the UAE and are highly valued.”

Peter Staudinger: “Our staff training programs in particular are really important to me. Our approach of ‘training-the-trainer’ is being fully realised within the L&R Group. Passing on knowledge and improving peoples’ quality is what continues to inspire me most about my job.”

    4 questions for Peter Staudinger

    Head of Education

What is the primary focus of the content of your training courses?

The courses’ primarily focus is to provide users with resultoriented training in the use of our therapeutic concepts. This could, for example, entail teaching users how to use compression bandages to treat oedema as part of providing complex manual decongestive therapy.

What has been your greatest success to date?

Success tends to be difficult to pinpoint in the educational sector. Hence, what I would consider a successful outcome would be if users (customers) were genuinely pleased with our products, happy to use them and were using them on a permanent basis.

Are there any anecdotes or anything else of note about your trainings you might want to share with us?

I was recently contacted by a doctor from India to ask whether I might come to Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) to put a cast on a tiger who had been shot. He assured me that the tiger had been put into a squeeze cage and anesthetised. Considering the tiger’s powerful teeth and likelihood that it would not take kindly to the cast, the medical team in attendance wasn’t sure how many layers to use for the cast. Although it took a while, we were eventually able to resolve the question through a conference call.

What would you like to see the most in order to be able to further optimise the training you deliver?

Thanks to our Flying Faculty and “train the trainer” programme we are currently on the exact right track for creating the perfect conditions for our training. However, in order to have an even greater effect on how people think and act at global level, I would like our marketing division to continue to create highly detailed product information to support the use of our products. When it comes to the L&R Group’s training team, I would like to see a catalogue of training courses with the associated curriculums, presentations and, if possible, corresponding tools such as E-Learning programs. If we all continue to work towards the same goals, we will not only give added strength to the training courses we offer, but also to L&R’s combined knowledge and expertise as made accessible through our Flying Faculty/IAF-EMS division.

    E-Learning

Our E-Learning tools, which are geared towards different levels of learning – i. e. basic, advanced and professional – allow course participants to access standardised information and materials on medical topics such as wound care or compression therapy from anywhere in the world. The E-Learning modules for our Basic Product Workshop are already available online in German and English. The advanced modules on Chronic Venous Disease and Oedema Management will follow in 2018.
