Vliwaktiv® Ag

Activated charcoal dressing which absorbs odour and bacteria

Fields of application

  • for critically colonized or infected, fetid wounds
  • for wounds at high risk of infection
  • Absorbent dressing:

    • for heavily exuding superficial wounds

  • Rope:

    • packing deep wounds
    • dressing for superficial wounds

  • absorbs wound odours and exudate
  • exerts an antibacterial effect in the dressing because of the silver (Ag), even for multi-resistant pathogens (MRSA, VRE)
  • retains endotoxins
  • additional clothing protection layer (dressing pad) prevents wound exudate from leaking out

To note

  • Do not cut because activated charcoal might get into the wound.

A skin-friendly, breathable nonwoven cover helps the exudate transfer into the absorbent core. The activated charcoal has the property of being able to absorb bacteria. The clothing protection layer blocks fluids and largely prevents the exudate from leaking through.

Vliwaktiv® Ag — also effective for MRSA and VRE

Silver combats a variety of pathogens rapidly and effectively.
In light of the rapidly increasing multiple resistances among infectious agents, silver’s efficacy against MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) and VRE strains (vancomycin-resistant enterococci) is especially significant.

Vliwaktiv® Ag

  • tough on bacteria, gentle on the wound
  • effective for wound odour and endotoxins
  • reliable antimicrobial effect in the wound dressing,
even for multiresistant bacteria (MRSA, VRE)
  • high absorption capacity as absorbent dressing

Packing rope:

1. Cleanse the wound according to the usual standard

2. Both sides of the Vliwaktiv Ag Rope can be used. Place the packing rope in the middle of the deep wound, pack it into the wound with forceps and carefully press in the projecting edges. The rope must be in direct contact with the wound bed so it can have a direct effect.

3. Based on the amount of exudate and the wound situation, put on an appropriate secondary dressing (e.g. Solvaline N pad, Vliwazell
absorbent dressing) and secure with an appropriate material (retention bandage or tape)

Dressing pad:

1. Cleanse the wound according to the usual standard

2. Place the Vliwaktiv Ag absorbent dressing on the
wound with the dark activated charcoal side down. The size of the dressing depends on the size of the wound; the dressing should extend at least 2-3 cm past the wound margin.

3. Secure the dressing with a suitable material (retention bandage or
