In parallel with the 10th birthday of EXPOLIFE in Kassel, the trade fair for specialist dealers in sanitary, orthopedic and rehabilitation products and orthopedic shoes, Cellacare Materna, the L&R special orthosis for pregnancy-related back complaints, is also celebrating its first 10 years. For 10 years now, it has helped expectant mothers with back problems in the last months of their pregnancy to cope more easily with their everyday life.
Over the years, several thousand pregnant women have come to appreciate the relieving and stabilizing effect of the special orthosis. It has proven to be a resounding success for the medical device supplier Lohmann & Rauscher (L&R) and has consistently enjoyed a high market share in Germany. Cellacare Materna was also the first ever back orthosis for pregnant women to be awarded an item number in the back orthoses sub-group in the register of medical aids and appliances.
Special orthoses provide support for expectant mothers
Studies show that between 50 and 80 % of pregnancies are associated with posture problems and related lower back pain, especially between the 5th and 7th month. This can substantially reduce both the women’s quality of life and their ability to cope with their daily routine. Special orthoses such as Cellacare Materna can counteract pregnancy-related back pain by stabilizing the lower spine, preventing and correcting poor and pain-relieving postures and reducing the mechanical load on the back.
Flexible to use with a stabilizing effect
Made of air-permeable and moisture-regulating materials, the four-component Cellacare Materna can be applied in only a few steps. The strong, elastic back section stabilizes the lower back; the anatomically-shaped straps are placed under the pregnant belly to support the baby’s weight. Both the outer elastic straps and the flat hook-and-loop fasteners can be used for individual adaptation to the changing shape of the belly.
Medical and healthcare suppliers join in the celebrations
Since March 2015, medical and healthcare suppliers have also been able to celebrate the birthday of Cellacare Materna by presenting their pregnant customers with a surprise gift from L&R in the form of a belly band.
