Employee-oriented, family-friendly and thus sustainably successful - this is how L&R presented itself to the Austrian Federal Minister for Women, Family, Integration and Media, Dr Susanne Raab, on August 17, 2023. Holger Maegdefrau, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of L&R, and Stefan Ringhofer, L&R Site Manager, gave the Federal Minister an insight into the L&R Group at the company site in Schönau a. d. Triesting.

The search for and recruitment of highly qualified employees is becoming increasingly difficult for companies - keyword employee market or retirement of the "baby boomers". In Austria, L&R currently employs more than 620 people at its sites in Vienna, Schönau a. d. Triesting, Graz and Dornbirn. Holger Maegdefrau, CFO of the L&R Group and  - among others - responsible for Human Resources, knows the importance of well-trained employees and what a company has to offer in order to keep them in the long term. "Our employees, their competence and their excellent work are the reason for our company's success. As an employer, it is important for us to offer the right framework conditions - e.g. flexible working time models or hours. Highly qualified, satisfied and motivated employees are the most important factor for our future! Therefore, we recruit the best minds to inspire them to pursue a career at L&R. At L&R, they will find, among other things, a wide range of development opportunities in a successful, internationally expanding company."

Employee-oriented and family-friendly solutions, training and education.

L&R was formed in 1998 through the merger of the German company Lohmann with the traditional Austrian company Rauscher and will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2023. However, its roots go back to the 19th century due to its predecessor companies. L&R offers its (potential) employees not only a dynamic working environment characterized by growth, internationalization, innovation and customer orientation: In addition to flexible working time models and hours as well as individual solutions for family or care challenges, (potential) employees in Austria can also benefit from high-quality vocational training in 5 professions (industrial clerk, medical device clerk, information technologist in system technology, mechatronics technician, metal technician in mechanical engineering technology) as well as comprehensive training opportunities at the in-house L&R Academy. This offers more than 500 training courses and workshops per year, involving certified learning programs in both classroom and online formats. Of course, measures for workplace health promotion (e.g. MyClubs on Austria), various employee events, and last but not least - very relevant for parents - childcare options in the summer are not to be missed.

Dr Susanne Raab confirmed the importance of family-friendly offers for employees and was impressed by the long history, the variety of products and the international presence and size of L&R. The training opportunities at L&R aroused particular interest and especially the question of which ones are particularly important for the future at L&R. Dr Susanne Raab: "Improving the compatibility of work and family is not only a matter close to my heart as Minister for Women and Family Affairs, but also as a mother. One of the key factors here is high-quality childcare, which is why we have set a record budget for childcare in Austria with the 15a agreement: We will invest 1 billion euros in the expansion of childcare over the next five years. That means more places, with better quality and better opening hours. However, it also requires companies to make their contribution to a better work-life balance, because family-friendly commitment is important for families so that they do not have to forego opportunities and possibilities, and at the same time has positive effects for companies. The Lohmann & Rauscher company sets a good example with its own in-house childcare."

Innovation and production in Austria as guarantors for success

Every year, the L&R Group launches around 15 - 20 new products or further developments in the core business areas of wound care including negative pressure wound therapy, bandages & supports and set systems & hygiene (products for the OR). However, as a medical products company, L&R is not only a distributor, but also manfactures and develops high-quality products and services itself, including in Schönau a. d. Triesting. The site is home to one of the group's 5 development centers and is one of the 16 production sites.

Site Manager Stefan Ringhofer: "Only those companies who constantly work on the development of their products and on innovative solutions that are geared to the needs of customers and patients will be successful in the long term. Here in Austria, and also internationally. We are therefore very proud of our 4 production departments and the development and quality assurance teams in Schönau."

Today, more than 500 employees work at the Schönau site in the areas of production, logistics, quality management, administration, technology, and research & development. Around 250 different products for wound care (including Suprasorb Liquacel, Vliwazell Pro, Vliwasorb Pro) and the bandages product area (Mollelast Haft , Haftelast) are manufactured in 2- and 3-shift operation. Numerous certifications and ratings confirm the high quality standards and their implementation, as well as the company's sustainability policy, among others EcoVadis Silver Rating, Sedex, EN ISO 50001 (energy management), EN ISO 14001 (environmental management), and oekotex Standard 100.
