On 10 November 2016, the Austrian Economic Chambers (WKO) and the state of Lower Austria awarded Suprasorb CNP EasyDress from Lohmann & Rauscher (L&R) the Lower Austria Innovation Prize 2016 in the ‘Innovations for Industry’ category. Thomas Menitz, COO (L&R), and Dr Christian Rohrer, Director of Research & Development (L&R), accepted the prize, which includes prize money of €2,500, at an awards ceremony in the Institute of Science and Technology Austria in Klosterneuburg, near Vienna. Thanks to its 3D geometry and special flexible material, Suprasorb CNP EasyDress enables particularly rapid occlusion on the extremities that protects intact skin in preparation for negative pressure therapy. The dressing becomes airtight in readiness for negative pressure therapy considerably more quickly than conventional methods.1) The award acknowledges the R&D expertise of L&R in the medical technology sector, which the company concentrates at its Schönau a. d. Triesting site in Lower Austria.
As a secondary dressing for negative pressure therapy, Suprasorb CNP EasyDress allows doctors to use negative pressure therapy for difficult-to-treat wound locations on the arms and legs. To be able to generate the negative pressure, the doctor pulls the tubular dressing over the affected extremity and seals it airtight. This can be done quickly and easily using the retention strips supplied with the dressing. The special transparent film is highly permeable to water vapour and thus prevents maceration of the underlying skin.
Compared to conventional treatment of a wound on the arm or leg, user tests indicated significantly better results: patient comfort, the quick application and the functionality of the dressing drew particular praise. 92% of users would use Suprasorb CNP EasyDress again immediately. 1)
Multi-award winner: CNP
In 2011, the Suprasorb CNP Drainage Film from L&R was awarded the innovation prize of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. This high-tech solution for use on the open abdomen is also the result of L&R’s in-house research and development. Receiving another prize for a product solution in the area of negative pressure therapy is a testament to the high level of expertise in the company – particularly in the field of medical technology. The growth sector of negative pressure therapy is the most modern form of treatment available to manage complex wounds. In five internal R&D centres, L&R is driving medical progress to simplify healthcare services using product and system solutions as well as service concepts.
Negative pressure therapy with system
Under the name CNP – Controlled Negative Pressure – L&R offers a complete system for negative pressure therapy that includes all the necessary components: in addition to the Suprasorb CNP therapy units, which generate negative pressure and are suitable for both hospital and mobile use, the system also includes wound fillers (wound foam and antimicrobial absorbent cotton gauze) to place in the wound as well as Suprasorb CNP Drainage Film for use on the open abdomen and the innovative secondary dressing for negative pressure therapy Suprasorb CNP EasyDress, which was specifically developed for use on the extremities.
Negative pressure therapy is often used if traditional methods of wound care do not appear sufficient after analysing the wound situation. It is used for acute wounds, infected postoperative wounds, burns and chronic wounds such as decubitus or lower leg ulcers. Practical experience has shown that negative pressure therapy can lead to more effective wound healing and accelerated wound closure in patients.
