The medical devices provider Lohmann & Rauscher (L&R) not only has customers and partners all over the world – since last year it has also had a presence on all five continents with its own subsidiaries. Despite its international orientation, the group, which was formed in 1998 when two long-standing companies merged, is dedicated to the values of a family-run company. This can also be clearly seen in L&R’s dedication to social affairs and charity. Looking back on 2016.
In addition to the group’s own corporate social sponsoring programme ‘L&R charity – we connect’, L&R works together with many well-established aid organisations, such as the Internationer Hilfsfond e.V., Ora Kinderhilfe International e.V., the Johanniter Orden and Caritas, so that the medical devices donated by the group reach the areas all over the world where they are most urgently needed. In Germany and Austria alone, the group’s core countries, more than 100 palettes of bandages, wound care articles and hospital supplies were donated in 2016; large amounts of relief supplies were also donated in France last year. In addition, goods with a value in excess of EUR 14,000 were sent to areas such as the crisis regions in Syria and the refugee camp in Idomeni in cooperation with the international aid organisation Human Plus.
L&R charity – we connect
In 2016, as part of the corporate social sponsoring programme ‘L&R charity - we connect’, more than EUR 75,000 was granted to implement various projects. As part of its CSS programme, L&R has committed to promoting its employees’ special projects that link different generations and which are associated with the group’s products or its business environment and which are located close to the group’s sites. The employee, who becomes the project promoter within the company, is always personally involved in the project or is at least involved in the external organisation which is carrying out the project.
In 2016 alone, six projects were successfully completed; five more projects are currently in various stages of being implemented. The projects cover a spectrum ranging from financing sports equipment for a multi-generation playground through to communal singing and creative afternoons for school pupils and senior citizens and supporting first-aid courses for senior citizens to learn special first aid measures for children or grandchildren. At present, for example, activity days with refugees and local residents of all ages are being held in Tirol – in addition to the long-term integration of the refugees, the days spent together also help to find mentors for unaccompanied minors.
‘2016 was a very eventful year for all of us – there were many positive moments, but also many events that affected us all and made us think. That makes it even more important to ensure that in our society we support each other and think and act consciously and with a sense of community. This also applies to us as a company and our contribution to social sustainability’, commented Wolfgang Süßle, CEO of the L&R Corporate Group. Another highly ambitious project supported by L&R will take place in the summer of 2017: renovating the medical centre in the small village of Sani in the Indian Himalayas.
