Suprasorb CNP endo is a complete system for endoscopic negative pressure therapy in the esophagus and rectum. The development of the system was an interdisciplinary team effort: in addition to the L&R development team led by Matthias Nemec, Head of Medical Technology at R&D in Schönau, international experts, users, and partners were also involved. The complete system has been on the market and in use in Austria and further countries since fall 2023. Endoscopic negative pressure therapy is used by surgeons and gastroenterologists on patients with anastomotic leaks, perforations, or other leaks in the esophagus and rectum. These are mostly postoperative complications following surgical procedures, e.g., after resections due to cancer or alcohol addiction. Suprasorb CNP endo is therefore not just a product or complete system, but can save patients' lives. Apart from L&R, there is only one other supplier of a system for endoscopic negative pressure therapy, but Suprasorb CNP endo is the only system with a therapy unit for electronically controlled generation of negative pressure and an integrated feeding tube for simultaneous enteral nutrition during therapy in the esophagus.
Innovations as a guarantee of success
Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Tourism (BMWET), presented the State Award for Innovation at a ceremony in the Grand Hall at the Erste Bank Campus on November 12, 2025. A jury of experts selected six innovative projects as finalists for the State Award for Innovation. The nominated companies, including L&R, prevailed against 19 other projects that were submitted by the state innovation competitions.
Thomas Menitz, CEO and COO of L&R:
"It is a great honor to be among the finalists for the State Award for Innovation. This nomination is a great success and a significant milestone in the history of our company. We are extremely proud of what we have achieved with our Suprasorb CNP negative pressure therapy range and now also with CNP endo! A big thank you and my congratulations go to our outstanding development team, our external partners, and everyone who contributed to this success. This finalist position is a special recognition of our innovative strength by independent and highest authorities in Austria. L&R and medical technology—they simply belong together. Our products, systems, and services not only significantly improve the work of users, but can even save lives with Suprasorb CNP endo. Last but not least, I would also like to congratulate the winner of the State, Rosendahl Nextrim GmbH.”
Every year, L&R launches around 10 new products or further developments on the market. L&R drives medical progress forward with product and system solutions and services in five of its own R&D centers, including in Schönau a.d. Triesting in Lower Austria. In 2024, the internationally active company, which has locations in Schönau a.d. Triesting, Vienna, Graz, and Dornbirn in Austria, achieved sales of around 813 million euros.
Fourth innovation award for L&R and the Suprasorb CNP range
In 2011, L&R's Suprasorb CNP drainage film was awarded the Innovation Prize of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, followed in 2016 by the Suprasorb CNP EasyDress negative pressure dressing, which won the "Lower Austrian Innovation Award" in the "Innovations for the Economy" category. This was followed in February by the "Lower Austrian Innovation Award" for Suprasorb CNP endo. All these high-tech solutions are the result of L&R's own research and development, which is always carried out in collaboration with users in the field.
Under the name Suprasorb CNP – Controlled Negative Pressure – L&R has been offering a complete system for negative pressure therapy with all the necessary components since 2008. At the heart of the system is the Suprasorb CNP P3 therapy unit, which generates the negative pressure and is suitable for both stationary and mobile use. Negative pressure therapy is often used after analysis of the wound situation when traditional wound care methods appear to be insufficient. Areas of application include acute wounds, post-operative infected wounds, burns, and chronic wounds such as pressure ulcers or venous leg ulcers. Practical experience shows that negative pressure therapy can lead to more effective wound healing and accelerated wound closure in patients.
